Terms and Conditions

UTMB reserves the right to limit or discontinue your access to the MyChart service if you do not comply with these terms and conditions.

Available Providers

Some providers may not communicate with their patients electronically. Others may ask an associate, such as a nurse or billing person, to contact you based on the subject matter contained in your secure message.

Use of MyChart for Health Care Services

MyChart should only be used for non-urgent matters; it should not be used in emergencies. If you are experiencing a sudden or severe change in your health, or otherwise need an immediate response, call 911 or contact your provider’s office by telephone.

Your physician may choose to select an associate to help manage and respond to your messages based on the subject matter of your message. This may include nursing staff or other administrative staff responsible for making appointments or other requested services.

Depending on the circumstance, your physician may wish to consult with another UTMB physician in order to facilitate your request. In these cases, your physician may forward secure messages for diagnosis, treatment, and other related reasons as appropriate. As a result, UTMB staff (other than your provider) may have access to secure messages that you send if it is necessary to provide you with a quality response. UTMB will not forward your secure messages to independent third parties without your prior written consent, except as authorized or required by law.

In order to retain the effectiveness of the MyChart service, UTMB physicians will not use this service to discuss your treatment if the communication involves information related to the following:

• Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
• Substance Abuse

In addition, this communication service is restricted to adults only. UTMB physicians will not communicate with minors electronically.

All correspondence within MyChart is automatically documented in your medical record.

Patient Rights and Responsibilities

As a patient, you have the right to restrict access to your medical information. While using this service, you, the patient, must control who has access to your user ID and password. Protecting against unauthorized access is a shared responsibility between you and UTMB. To ensure the highest level of security, do not share your login/access information with anyone.

Account Termination

You may not use MyChart to send abusive, derogatory, or an excessive number of messages. Using foul, threatening, or insulting language will not be tolerated. If you have been dismissed from a department or provider's care, you may not use MyChart with that department or provider. If you are incarcerated by the Texas Department of Corrections, you will not have access to information in MyChart during incarceration, nor will your proxy.

UTMB reserves the right to terminate your account if you do not meet these terms and conditions.
